Jay Taylor

Jay Taylor has been composing and performing music for concerts, film, television, radio, dance, theatre, art installation and much more in and around Winnipeg, Canada for over four decades. As a producer and multi-instrumentalist, he has dabbled in most genres of music with a focus on instrumental and experimental music in its many forms. Long interested in sounds and instruments from around the world, he has always acknowledged that every sound he has ever heard, has influenced his music.

He was curator and performer for a number of multi-media concerts that included poetry, improvised dance, images, and music. He was Videopool’s Audio Artist in Residence and founding member of many local musical ensembles and bands. He has worked with Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, composed music for a number of videos, films, theme and incidental music for CBC radio and television and the Women’s Television Network, performed at the Winnipeg Jazz Festival Nu-Sounds series and countless other concerts and venues. His selected discography includes 2 albums with Amakudari (Attic Records), 3 albums with Disappearing Floor (Dollar Tone Records), 3 albums with Big 'n Dinky (available on Apple Music), as well as the defuhcats, the mcLOUDS, Random Interference, and many self-titled solo releases or under the name 2MuchBass. He has also produced and recorded many musical projects for multiple artists and has performed as a sideman for many to this day. 

As well as being a card-carrying member of Midbrain Surfers. Jay is currently developing an original project called Oudist Colony with instruments from around the world including oud, saz, percussion, piano and bass, and continues nurturing his longtime association with animator and visual artist Murray Toews.
