Kiva Simova
Kiva Simova is a seasoned musician based in Winnipeg, Canada. Best known for polyphonic overtone singing (2 pitches simultaneously) and extended vocal techniques, she has performed and taught globally, blending this with jazzy pop/ experimental/ world, accompanying herself on keyboards. Midbrain Surfers is her current focus, with 'voice as instrument' being her favorite mode.

Early classical and jazz piano studies led to many groups, from rock, pop, world, experimental, to solo jazz piano (while living in Japan). She carved out her own niche since implementing overtone singing in '89. She was a tour member (backup vocals and keyboards) of Crash Test Dummies for the '94 world tour in support of 'God Shuffled His Feet'. Expanding horizons in '09, as one of a very few, she created a substantial body of work for overtone choir, debuting as a conductor in '10 with her own such choir Auralia in Prague. With 3 solo CDs (The Ladder '98, Pulse '05, and The Quality of Light '14), live, in recordings and soundtracks, she's worked with Tanya Tagaq, Jennifer Berezan, Wyrd Sisters, Olla Vogala Orchestra (Belgium), Toronto Improvisor’s Orchestra, Musica Intima Vocal Ensemble (Vancouver) and more.
